Tempted
Ancestors Warning....
This was something I started as a note long ago, and today I played with it and came up with this.
It’s not meant to be considered religious, though it contains depictions of the devil. I believe that regardless of religion—we all understand the concept of darkness, especially the kind that can consume us if we trade away too much of ourselves.
Long ago, a melody was sang by ancestors.
A dance… spirit gestures.
It was more than a cry, it was a warning—
learn from their mistakes or forever be trapped in mourning.
The path is short,
The journey is long.
At the end stands the man with devilish charm,
singing his song.
In his forest, you will find a familiar name,
and each soul chained to look the same.
Those who kill for him and fight
have traded truth and lost their sight—
Empathy….. autonomy.
He hums softly, smiling like a friend,
but don’t be fooled in following to his end.
You’ll know him by his suit stitched in hate.
Recognize the glow his eyes dilate—
a twisted, resentful disguise,
the silent warning of your demise (fate).
Remember, an easy, short path
is anything but simple in the aftermath.
Don’t be so easily tempted.
Close your own resentful eyes… realize
that which has caused you to be infected (selected).
In his forest, you will find a familiar name,
and every soul chained to look the same.
Souls who gave up honesty,
body…autonomy.
They hold tongues in bloody hands,
waiting his further demands.
Surrounded by spite,
not an ounce of contrite.
Hate has devoured… consumed.
Forever chained to him… entombed.
Twisted into his flesh and bone,
never again their own name known.
Long ago, a melody was sang by ancestors.
A dance… spirit gestures.
It was more than a cry, it was a warning—
Learn from their mistakes, or forever be trapped in mourning.
Thank you for reading. I always appreciate your time.

Excellent poem. I think we all have our own devils to deal with on a daily basis
I loved this poem, it has very valuable lessons told in such an artistic manner. The best of the lessons I got out of it is, the easiest path often leads to the deepest sorrow.
